Defend your city from the evil kana invaders!
Kana Attacks! is a game I am developing in hopes that it will help people learn Japanese kana. It is sort of a cross between "Space Invaders" and "Typing of the Dead". Kana fall from the sky and you must shoot them with your arufabetto laser. You must position your space ship and then aim by typing in the romaji equivalent to the falling kana. Try to type fast though. Your score per hit increases with the speed you type in the Romaji equivalent. You are also penalized for wrong answers (-100 pts) or letting the Kana hit your city (-300 pts). The game is over after three increasingly difficult rounds, or every building in your city is destroyed. It allows you to pick any combination of rows of katakana or hiragana, i.e. Ka, Ki, Ku, Ke, Ko, and Sa, Shi, Su, Se, So to study. Best of all, Kana Attacks! is freeware, and open-source! It is also portable. Download the .zip file and unzip it to a folder on your USB flashdrive and practice your kana wherever you go!
**NOTE** This game is in ACTIVE development now. Although it is functional, there may be bugs. Check back often for updates, or enable the auto-update option, as I update this program almost weekly. Please send any bugs/comments/questions/feature requests you have to email@example.com. Feedback is appreciated! Also, if you would like to help with this project, please let me know as I am doing this all myself at the moment in my spare time. I could REALLY use someone willing to create some better graphics for it (I just use MS Paint and it shows :-)), or someone to help code.
