About Ms. Fair

This passed summer I got married and spent a lot of time arranging the library to better suit the needs of our students.  I wish I had hiked and camped more, but I'm sure I'll have time to do those fun things next summer.  I also spent a lot of time with my dog, a lab whippet mix, named Gatsby.

I spent the first 6 years of my teaching career in high school English after graduating college with two degrees: English Language and Composition and Secondary Education.  I have always loved reading (and writing) and wanted a profession that focused more on getting people to love reading.  I firmly believe that a person who can read and enjoys reading will always find ways to be successful and happy because they have and enjoy the skill it takes to learn new things independently.

I also have interests across different fields, like science and math.  I found that working in the library allows me to better relate these fields to my teaching than I could under the strict English curriculum.  Now I get to explore all fields and interests with students while introducing them to skills needed to elaborate on their own interests.  Furthermore, I am able to better relate their skills from the classroom to alternative situations, thereby reinforcing their learning as something that must exist beyond their classroom walls.

I have a blog about children's books I read.  Although I have been quite busy this year with reading, I have not always had a chance to update this blog.  I need to get back to that.  However, when I have time  I review each book and state whether or not I enjoyed it.  Sometimes I recommend a book, but sometimes I don't.  If I do recommend it, I try to say what kind of person may enjoy it.  My blog can be found at the link below.
