Blog: A Writer's Tales and Travails

May has been a busy month. Last Saturday at the Virginia Beach Barnes & Noble last Saturday. Wonderful event and I met some wonderful people. Funniest memory was from one of the first customers to approach me at the table. She told me she wasn't really a crime novel fan, but one of her friends really enjoyed  the genre. I said, "Why not buy a book and I'll sign it for her," to which she replied, "Well, she's really not that good a friend," and walked away. Thanks to Marian Atterberry, the Community Development Business Manager for inviting me down.

Successful Book Launch (sort of)

I had a very special book launching for Last Respects in West Chester, PA (the town I based East Hastings on, the setting for my stories). Okay, so there was a snow storm that kept people away, and there was the nervousness of not knowing whether my novels would be delivered to the West Chester Book Outlet in time for the launch (they arrived 30 minutes before things were set to start). Still, I was joined by some dear friends who weathered the storm, and even one of my high school English teachers who instilled a love of literature and the written word back in the day. It was the first time I read my work in public and it definitely helped to be among friends and family. I've been scheduling other book events and looking forward to meeting more readers and, (dare I say it?) fans. Hope they're all as much fun as the first one.

Introducing Myself

Hello,

My name is John Essick and my first novel, Last Respects, is due out in about one month. I will be using this blog to share (with anyone who is interested) the experiences I am going through setting up my promotion plan, social media author, events, stories about the people I am meeting, reviews of authors whose books I enjoy, and ,well, anything that is going on in my writing career. I hope you enjoy coming along on my journey.
