I am an assistant professor in the philosophy department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2016-17, I will be a visiting assistant professor at Harvard University. Previously, I was a research fellow in the Centre for Consciousness at the Australian National University. I received my PhD from the University of Texas at Austin.
My work focuses on issues in epistemology, philosophy of mind, philosophy of action, and metaethics; it also sometimes engages topics in metaphysics, moral psychology, and philosophical methodology. Recently I've been thinking a lot about experiencing, perceiving, intuiting, conceiving, knowing (that and how), understanding, and grasping. This might reflect my general interest in the different sorts and sources of intelligence, and the role of the intellect in human cognition and agency -- and, even more generally, in the relations between mind and world.
