I am an assistant professor in the philosophy department at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. For 2014-2015, I will be on leave made possible by a research grant for a project on The Unity of Practical and Theoretical Understanding. Previously, I was a research fellow in David Chalmers' Centre for Consciousness at the Australian National University. I received my PhD from the University of Texas at Austin in 2010.

My work
focuses on issues in philosophy of mind, epistemology, and philosophy of action. Recently I've been thinking a lot about experiencing, perceiving, intuiting, conceiving, knowing (that and how), skillful-acting, understanding, and grasping. This might reflect my general interest in the different sorts and sources of intelligence -- and, even more generally, in the relations between mind and world.

Besides the above, I also dabble in metaphysics, meta-ethics, moral psychology, and
other areas. In the past I sometimes posted over at Close Range, but not here (though you should probably go there anyway).

Links to various papers can be found here. More information about my research can be found here.
