I am a Vilas Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I have also held appointments at Harvard University, the Centre for Consciousness at the Australian National University, and the University of Wyoming.

My work
focuses on issues in epistemology, philosophy of mind, philosophy of action, metaethics, metaphysics, and methodology. I have written on perception, intuition, knowledge (that and how), skill, understanding, grasping, and inquiring. This reflects my general interest in the different sorts and sources of intelligence, and the role of the intellect in human cognition and agency -- and, even more generally, in the relations between mind and world.
