Title: Rigidity of cohomology classes in homogeneous varieties

Abstract: In recent years, building on techniques developed by Bryant and Walters, differential geometers including Hong, Robles and The have studied the rigidity of Schubert classes in Compact Complex Hermitian Symmetric Spaces. In this talk, I will discuss the rigidity of Schubert classes in homogeneous varieties. I will characterize rigid Schubert classes in Grassmannians and discuss generalizations to orthogonal and symplectic Grassmannians. Along the way, I will give some answers to classical questions like "Which cohomology classes can be represented by smooth subvarieties of Grassmannians?"
