The Unsung: Three superhero flicks that are not from Marvel or DC

It seems that all the superhero movies these days are either from Marvel or DC. Even if I’m a fan of both comic book universes, following a certain group of heroes could get boring sometimes. Thankfully, there are a few heroes out there that aren’t associated with the Avengers or the Justice League. Here are some of my favorites:

Hancock (2008)

Will Smith as the temperamental and unlikely superhero John Hancock is in my opinion, one of the best roles he has taken on. This movie is a refreshing take on the lives of superheroes such as Hancock and Mary (Charlize Theron) who don’t have to carry the burden of an established superhero history.

Meteor Man (1993)

When schoolteacher Jefferson Reed (Robert Townsend) gets his superpowers from a meteor, he becomes a local hero. As he fights crime in the community and gains self-confidence, he realizes that his new superpowers may not be enough. Watch this film if you want to go back to the 90’s.

The Incredibles (2004)

The producers from Pixar have made another blockbuster with this film. The Incredibles is a superhero animated flick with a heart. With a superhero family trying to work together as a team and saving a world that has outlawed their kind, viewers will enjoy a refreshing take on life with superpowers.
