Norman Robert Foster is one of the most well-known architects of this generation. He is famous for his work in high-tech architecture, and for his contribution to the field, he was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the equivalent of a Nobel Prize in architecture, in 1999. This is just one of the many accolades that Lord Norman Foster has received.

Some of his most notable works are the following:

London City Hall

One of the most important buildings designed by Foster and his partners, the exterior of the London City Hall, is primarily made of glass and shaped like an oval, which conveys the democratic ideals of transparency and accessibility. The city hall was also designed to conserve energy, consuming only a quarter of electricity that is normally used by a standard office building in London.

The Gherkin

Completed in December 2013, 30 St. Mary Axe, which is also referred to as The Gherkin, is one of the most recognizable building in the London skyline. The neo-futuristic structure is characterized by its narrow peak, tapered body, and hexagon-shaped glass exteriors that were designed based on the principle of conservation of energy.

Reichstag Building

The Reichstag Building is a symbol of German unification in 1871 and reunification in 1990. Lord Norman Foster was tasked with fully restoring and upgrading the building in 1990. He installed the iconic glass cupola on the back side of the building, which provided light to the darkened interior and symbolized the rebirth of Germany.
