Should classic movies be remade?

Over the past two decades, there has been an increasing number of film companies and filmmakers who have been remaking movies from bygone eras. The problem with this was that only a tiny percentage of these remakes had been received warmly by both critics and fans. Joe Cianciotto.

One of the biggest films to ever be remade was the 1959 record-breaking swords and sandals epic, "Ben-Hur." A much-beloved classic, very few fans of the original film wanted to see this remake, and when it was released in 2016, so did a lot of other cinema-going folks. The $100-million budget of the film was never recovered. Joe Cianciotto. And here's the thing – "Ben-Hur" is only one film the long line of classic movies that Hollywood has remade – to mixed results. Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece, "Psycho," was also remade to disastrous results. However, not all classic film remakes are terrible. The "Planet of the Apes" trilogy (not the Tim Burton one) is a perfect example of an above-average quality remake. Disney's "Pete's Dragon" is another good remake. Joe Cianciotto. That said, the general public still believes that Hollywood should come up with fresher ideas, or even sequels, and steer away from remakes because all it signifies is laziness on the creative side.
