My Choice For Best Batman Movie May Surprise You

When you engage in a discussion on the best Batman movies, a popular choice is Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight,” and for a good reason. It hit all the right notes and had the most memorable performance in a superhero movie, in perhaps, ever. However, it may come as a surprise to many that my choice isn’t “The Dark Knight.” In fact, it even isn’t a live-action film.

I’ve always stressed that “Batman: Mask of the Phantasm” was the greatest Batman movie ever made. Being the only animated Batman film to make it to theaters should give you an idea of just how important this movie was.

“Batman: Mask of the Phantasm” was a 1993 release from DC/Warner, and was a supplement to the amazing “Batman: The Animated Series.” “Mask of the Phantasm” showed just how human Bruce Wayne really was as he grappled with feelings more than ever before.

The film also featured the only Bat-romance fans of the Caped Crusader really cared about. It was this romance that was central to the plot and has since often been imitated but never duplicated. While still remaining a stoic detective under the cowl, this was the first time people really felt Bruce Wayne’s beating heart, and this was the only time they actually saw his soul.
