Not so long ago, we dreamt of the first unmanned aircraft and how it can change the world for the better. It was first used as a military surveillance drone, but today, the worldwide drone market is worth approximately $89 billion, and the unmanned aircraft are being deployed for a whole new range of uses.

Here are some of the commercial uses for drones that will change the world in the coming years:

1. Search and rescue

As early as 2006, the LA County Sherriff’s department began experimenting with a surveillance drone they called SkySeer. It’s a search and rescue drone that can be programmed to scan areas inch-by-inch, a feat more resilient and thorough than humans.

2. Farming

Surveillance drones could be equipped to spray pesticides and analyze a farmer’s land from above. This won’t only speed up the farming process; it can also provide the farmers valuable information on how to boost their harvests.

3. Delivering Aid

A U.S.-based company has developed a fleet of drones that can deliver life-saving items to rural and undeveloped areas.

One of the more popular uses of consumer drones is for photography, this added tool for photographers will give them a perspective they weren’t able to reach before.
