The Jo Daviess County League of Women Voters has chosen to study water resource issues in our area, and would like to collaborate with others in this effort. The initial goal is to raise awareness about the nature, value and vulnerability of our water resources.

This effort is important because of:

  • Global and national water issues - declining water quality, environmental concerns regarding the welfare of local flora and fauna, availability of safe water, potential for catastrophic contamination events, and competing needs for water resources.
  • Growing local interest in groundwater and surface water protection issues
  • Storm-water control issues
  • Erosion, sedimentation and run-off concerns
  • Economic development opportunities related to water supply
  • The need to build a local consensus based on facts
  • The need for a proactive rather than a reactive discussion

Having completed the Jo Daviess County Water Resource Management Plan in 2016, the League has moved on to working on a plan for the Galena River Watershed, scheduled to be complete in September of 2018. For more information and articles on the subject, please visit the following websites:
