Double-Glick Statement of Faith
Statement of Faith
(This page is in progress, so please excuse the lack of Scripture references and the few points.)
We believe that God eternally exists in a triune Godhead, consisting of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; coequal in essence, power, glory, majesty, and sovereignty, and deserving all honor, praise and worship. (John 1:1; Philippians 2:6; 1 John 5:7; Matthew 3:16-17; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16). We believe that He is God (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 3:9; Philippians 2:6; 1 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 1:1-3, 8-12), the Second Person of the Trinity (1 John 5:7; Matthew 3:16-17; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14). We believe that He eternally existed with the Father (John 17:5), was conceived by the virgin Mary of the Holy Ghost (Matthew 1:18,23; Luke 1:26-35), was crucified (Matthew 27:35; Mark 15:24-25; 16:6; Luke 23:33; 24:20; John 19:18-20,23,41), placed in the tomb (Matthew 27:59-60; Mark 15:46; Luke 23:53-55; John 19:41-42), rose again the third day (Matthew 28:1-7; Mark 16:1-9; Luke 24:1-7,13-46; John 20:1-29), and ascended on High (Mark 16:19; Luke 24:51; Ephesians 4:8-10; 1 Timothy 3:16; 1 Peter 3:22), where He is now seated at the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19; Romans 8:34; Ephesians 1:20; Colossians 3:1; Hebrews 1:3; 8:1; 10:12; 12:2; 1 Peter 3:22). We believe that He is coming again to receive His Church (1 Thessalonians 4:17) and to judge the nations (2 Timothy 4:1).
We believe that the Bible is the verbal plenary inspired Word of God. I believe that every word of Scripture was spoken by God to and through specifically chosen men (Acts 1:16; 3:18,21; 4:25; 2 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 4:4; 2 Peter 1:21). We believe that it is accurate and authoritative in everything that it says, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21. Although it is not a history or science book, We believe that when it speaks on matters of science and history, it is completely accurate and trustworthy. We believe that the Bible should be our first and final authority on all issues (Isaiah 8:20)
We believe that God created the Heavens and the Earth and everything in them in 6 literal, 24-hour days.
We believe that Man was created on the sixth day of creation; that God created Man in His own image, and Woman to be his helpmeet. We believe that Man was created perfect, full of intelligence, able to commune with God. However, he chose to disobey God's command, and thereby death entered the world, as the punishment for sin. We believe that due to his sin, the heart of the natural man is deceitful and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9), is eternally separated from God, and is condemned to die (Ezekiel 18:4,20).
We believe that salvation is only by grace through faith in the atoning work of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8), and is free to all who place their faith and trust in Him (Romans 6:23; 10:9-13). We believe that our salvation is not dependent on us (Ephesians 2:9), but is eternally in the hands of the Father (John 10:29), and can never be lost (John 3:15-16; 10:28-29; Acts 13:48; Romans 6:23; 8:35-39; Hebrew 9:12; 1 John 2:25; 5:11-13). We believe that at the time of salvation, the Christian is eternally justified and sanctified in the eyes of God (Acts 20:32; 26:18; Romans 5:1,9; 1 Corinthians 1:2,30; 6:11; Jude 1). We also believe that at the time of salvation, the Christian is empowered to live a life of victory over sin (Romans 6:6,14; 8:1-2).
We believe that marriage was instituted by God to honor and glorify Himself, and is to be one man and one woman for life (Mat. 19:4-6). We believe that when a man and a woman are joined together in marriage, they become one flesh (Gen. 2:24), by which God seeks a godly seed (Mal. 2:15). We believe that the marriage union is a picture of Christ and His bride, the Church (Eph. 5:31-32).
