Overview of Our Campus
Located on a 100-acre complex, the University of Miami/ Jackson Memorial Medical Center is nationally and internationally recognized. Each year 800 faculty physicians from the UM Miller School of Medicine have more than a million patient encounters in primary care and more than 30 specialties.
Dozens of physicians are named among "The Best Doctors in America," while each year several specialties are recognized among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The magazine has listed Bascom Palmer Eye Institute as the number one hospital in the country for ophthalmology for several years in a row.
The Internal Medicine program utilizes various research and training sites on campus. Jackson Memorial Hospital has more than 1,500 beds and is a major referral/tertiary care center for South Florida, Central and South America, and the Caribbean Basin. The Department of Medicine is responsible for approximately 160 general medical beds, an 18-bed medical ICU, and an 11-bed CCU.
The Veterans Administration Medical Center, located just minutes away from the medical center, has more than 750 beds. Eighty-one are acute medical beds including a modern fully-staffed CCU, and Medical Intensive Care Unit. In addition, there is a significant ambulatory and geriatric program at the veteran's hospital.
Additional clinical and research facilities are provided on campus. Among them are the Diabetes Research Institute, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the Center for Research and Medical Education and the University of Miami Cardiovascular Center.
