Chevron Lace Hat and Socks
Chevron Lace Hat and Socks

This hat was created to match the "Chevron Lace Better Than Booties Baby Socks" by Ann Budd, from Interweave Knits Summer 2005. The Chevron Socks pattern is available only on the Interweave Knits website.

Yarn: 1 50g/195yd skein Dale of Norway Stork (100% cotton), color #2 (off-white). (I estimate that the hat used 100-120 yds, since 1 skein was enough to make the matching socks and up to the first decrease rounds of the hat.)

Needles: 2.0 mm (US 0) [I am a loose knitter, and generally get the correct gauge about two US sizes smaller than the suggested needles. If you find that you knit the correct gauge closer to most suggested needle sizes, I would recommend swatching first with a US 2]

Gauge: 18 sts x 25 rows = 2"

Chevron Lace pattern, worked over 7 stitches and 6 rounds:

Round 1: Yo, SSK, K3, K2tog, yo
Round 2: Knit
Round 3: K1, yo, SSK, K1, K2tog, yo, K1
Round 4: Knit
Round 5: K2, yo, S2K1P, yo, K2
Round 6: Knit

Cast On

Cast on 120 stitches. Join for working in the round, being careful not to twist, and knit 6 rounds. Next round (picot round): [Yo, K2tog] around. Knit 5 rounds even. Make picot hem as follows: Fold work at picot round, making sure that the wrong sides of the work are facing each other. Insert right-hand needle into first stitch of round as if to knit, then into the loop at the bottom of the first cast-on stitch. Knit these two stitches together. *Insert right-hand needle into next stitch as to knit, then into bottom loop of next cast-on stitch. Knit these two stitches together. Repeat from * until all stitches of the round have been worked. Knit 1 round.
