Hi and welcome!
My name is Mrs. Marballie and I am currently a 9th year teacher and in my first year as academic math coach at Eastern Montgomery High School and Blacksburg High School.  I previously taught at Auburn High School for 8 years after the completion of my Master's Degree at Virginia Tech in Mathematics Education Curriculum and Instruction.  I have a Bachelor's Degree from Virginia Tech in Mathematics and I graduated from Washburn Rural High School in Topeka, Kansas.

I was raised in Topeka where I enjoyed playing sports including basketball, softball, track, and especially volleyball.  This interest turned into a collegiate career when I signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  This Division II school was a volleyball powerhouse and we successfully made it to the NCAA National Championship before falling short in the finals.  Following a successful freshman year of college I transferred to Virginia Tech to play volleyball for the Hokies.  For three years I

played at the libero position, coached summer volleyball camps, and attended school.  I have enjoyed a successful career at Tech which included both academic and athletic accomplishments.

My athletic background has fueled a passion for coaching as well as teaching.   I believe that there is a common factor between school and sports and it is working hard.  Both on the court and off this is essential to a successful career in whatever path you choose.  I chose to teach math because I want to make a positive impact on students who believe math "just isn't their subject."  Math is for everybody, some just have to work harder at it than others.  I also believe in providing a classroom environment where students explore math as a "team."  I want to enforce self sufficient behaviors so students feel comfortable venturing out of their comfort zones in order to explore deeper mathematics.

My goal as a teacher and a coach is to promote effort and perseverance as these are two of my core values, like Edison said "genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration."
