If you can say YES to the following, you should apply for an internship through WBL/YAP!
  1. Are you a rising junior or senior?
  2. Do you have strong attendance?
  3. Do you have a designated career interest?

Everything you do now ends up in your permanent record.  The best plan is to overload Google with a long trail of good stuff and to always act as if you're on camera, because you are!                                                                -Author unknown

Potential employers and schools will search your name.  You should search your name, too.

What does WBL/YAP look like?
  • Focus on students' career interest and building upon their supporting coursework knowledge and skill;
  • Focus on learning many aspects of a career area rather than focusing on a narrow skill set;
  • Structured on-site learning through hands-on experience and a designated career mentor;
  • Fostering the development of attitudes, knowledge, and habits that might not develop solely from work experience.
  • School credit, off-campus placement, on-campus coordinator, non-paid and paid placements
  • Each period of WBL/YAP is equal to one hour's experience at the placement site.  For example, a student has two periods of WBL/YAP per day-  in one week a student needs to get 10 hours of on-site career experience (Two periods, five days per week).  Some placement sites have flexibility in allowing students to earn those hours in fewer days with a longer work span per day.
  • Each period, year-long, of WBL/YAP is equal to one credit.  If a student takes three periods, year-long, they can earn three credits.
Some career areas have limited placements due to high demand.  See Mrs. Aiken to secure your placement!
