Welcome, this is my portfolio!
Introduction-
My passion is providing health and wellness services to pre-professional and professional dancers. I was the Supervisor of Pilates and Dance Medicine at Cincinnati Ballet from 1989-2020 and was employed by Mercy Health in Cincinnati, Ohio. I have enjoyed being part of the Integrated Studies graduate program at Northern Kentucky University am excited to share my work in this portfolio. I have also included my resume on this page.
As a a former professional ballet dancer who studied with with Boston Ballet, Cleveland Ballet and performing professionally with Southern Ballet Theatre, New Orleans City Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Orlando Opera, Cleveland Opera, and Cincinnati Opera I am grateful for the opportunity to have pursued several careers. My educational career started with a BA in Dance from the University of South Florida and athletic training courses from the University of Cincinnati where I gained licensure as an athletic trainer. The Integrated Studies work here at Northern Kentucky University has allowed me to advance my educational career by combining health education, kinesiology, and education courses to better serve the students I now enjoying teaching in the dance and musical theater department. My capstone focuses on designing a performing arts medicine health and wellness program that can be utilized at the University level.
During my athletic training career, I enjoyed being a frequent presenter, speaking to dancers and instructors at Louisville Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre , West Virginia Dance Festival, Cincinnati Ballet, University of Cincinnati Dance department, McGing Irish Dancers, and Exhale Dance Tribe, including presentations at the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science and the National Athletic Trainers Association. I have written various dance medicine articles for Dance Magazine, Advanced Rehabilitation Magazine, Dance Teacher Magazine and Irish Dancing Magazine. But, I am mostly, proud to be the author of Dance Anatomy and have recently published the 2nd edition, which are both Human Kinetic publications.
My graduate education career allowed me to advance my knowledge in Health Education, Kinesiology, Grant Writing and mental health and wellness. The integrative studies program made it possible for me to immerse myself in the areas that I am most passionate about. I also wanted to focus on educating the students I now enjoy teaching by helping them understand the importance of life-long wellness. As a member of both the National Athletic Trainers Association and the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science, I have been integrating my work as an athletic trainer with my work as a dancer for many years, I am grateful for the opportunities that Northern Kentucky University has provided for me.
Having a supportive family has been a blessing. My daughters and my husband help make life's journey a meaningful one. I am grateful for their advice, their love and their resilience. We live on a farm in Pendleton County and enjoy spending time with our dog, Phoebe, vacationing and laughing!
