Hello there!
I'm Jerrod, a PhD recipient from the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Kentucky.

My areas are environmental and nonmarket valuation with an emphasis on methods in stated preference approaches. My dissertation focused on stated preference approaches with an emphasis on understanding and mitigating biases associated with these methods. A major focus was on understanding values for monarch and viceroy butterflies, and how these values may be different for the two species. I have also done work on water and recreational quality of Oahu beaches in Hawaii, valuation of horseback riding trails, internet food marketing, hospitality and bed bug issues, value of statistical life, and field experiments involving behavioral change.

Teaching: I recently finished teaching two courses in the Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics at The Ohio State University; AEDE-4106 Strategic Management with over 50 students, and AEDE-3102 Agricultural Marketing with 100 students. At UK, I created and taught three classes: A Competitive Edge to Ag Economics (four times), Economic Perspectives on Current Environmental Issues (once), and the Science and Economics of Insects (once). I also have co-taught AEC-580, a consulting project class in Spring 2011-2017.

I am currently the coach of the UK Ag Economics Quiz Bowl team, which won the national competition at AAEA in 2017 and were national runners-up in 2016. I also work these talented students on individual undergraduate research projects. I recently finished my sixth year as a member of the University of Kentucky Student Sustainability Council and served four years as a student representative on the President's Sustainability Advisory Committee.
