The following google doc has a schedule and other important information. I will post lecuture notes and exercises in the drive folder.
Assessment: There will be no graded assignments. Optional exercises will be posted in on the website. You are welcome to discuss them with me in office hours. Class attendance and participation is recommended. There will be optional 30 minute student presentations towards the end of the semester.
Structure of the course: The first third of the course will be a crash in basic algebraic topology: the theory of bundles, classifying spaces, group homology, simplicial objects, spectra sequences, etc. The final two thirds will focus on homological stability. We will start with "Quillen's method." Time permitting, we will cover more modern approaches to homological stability, techniques for computing the stable homology, and/or generalizations of homology stability such as representation stability.
