Midterm 1 information:
Date: Thursday October 3rd.There will be five to eight problems plus one bonus question. All material from Appendix A,B,C and Sections 1.1-1.6., 2.1-2.4., 2.6. 3.1-3.4. 4.1-4.5. 5.1.-5.2. 5.4. will be fair game. One question will require you to simply give definitions. One to three questions will primarily focus on computations. The rest will be proofs. You will have 110 minutes. The following is a sample midterm: Practice Midterm 1. I make no guarantee that it will be similar to the actual midterm.

Date: Thursday November 14th. There will be five to eight problems plus one bonus question. All material from Appendix A,B,C and Sections 1.1-1.6., 2.1-2.4., 2.6., 3.1-3.4. 4.1-4.5. 5.1.-5.2. 5.4. will be fair game. The emphasis will be on Sections 3.1-3.4. 4.1-4.5. 5.1.-5.2. 5.4. One question will require you to simply give definitions. One to four questions will primarily focus on computations. The rest will be proofs. You will have 110 minutes. Homework will be collected weekly at the end of class (generally on Tuesdays). If you cannot attend class, you may email your homework to me before the end of that day's class. A few randomly selected questions on each set will be graded.
