Simple Marinara Sauce

2 teaspoons olive oil
2-3 garlic cloves, finely minced
1 28oz can crushed tomatoes
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
15-20 leaves of fresh basil, chopped

In a large saucepan or deep skillet, over medium heat, add the olive oil and garlic. Let the garlic saute for 1-2 minutes (make sure it does not burn). Add the crushed tomatoes and stir. Season with salt, pepper, sugar, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Allow to simmer for 20 minutes. Add the basil and simmer another 5 minutes. Now it's ready for the meatballs or even your favorite pasta!!
