Howdy, my name is Jen Hegna!

Jen's FamilyWelcome to my Learning Edge Certification journey!  I am the Director of Information and Learning Technology for Byron Public Schools in Byron, MN.  I have been with the district for 17 years and am very VERY passionate about educational technology and how it can support the teaching and learning process.  In 2010, I received an M.S. degree in Information and Communication Technology along with a grad certificate in eLearning from UW Stout.  That was a life changing experience for me!

I developed and continue to facilitate a 6 week e-Certification course in my district for teachers who are interested in becoming hybrid or fully online educators.   There were 3 reasons I wanted to take the LEC course:

  1. I developed my e-Certification course in 2009.  I have revised the course several times since then - some of it, very significant!  I wanted to find out - is my course still relevant?  Upon completed this course, I have determined it is still very relevant to today's k-12 classroom learning.
  2. One of my areas of improvement is to better understand ADA compliance and Universal Design.  I will add a unit in my e-Certification course to properly train potential online teachers.
  3. While I feel my grad school education and online facilitation experience have been extremely important, I also feel that being nationally certified could help better my professional career.

I am married and have four boys and a dog named "Sister".  When I am not learning (via my PLN),  I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, photography, motorcycling and 4-wheeling, gardening and spending time outdoors.
