Macro-Jê is a linguistic stock covering a large territory in South American lowlands. In the 19th century it was noticed for the first time that several languages of central Brazilian amerind groups were closely related, and the name  was given to this language family. Since then, several studies improved our knowledge of the Jê linguistic family, as well as expanded its connections to a set of other related families, composing the Macro-Jê linguistic stock.
