Chapter 1 Mass Communication

In Chapter 1 Mass Communication the approach to the whole idea of revolutionizing our culture with technology was very helpful in understanding how quickly our culture is adapting to new technology.  Its understood that in this chapter one revolutionary happening lead to another and so on.  The print revolution began in China around 100 C.E. and 1045; that was when print first began.  The electronic and digital era's soon followed that with the telagraph in the 1840s followed by the fax machine, and so on.  This pattern of pushing the limits has been going on since the begining of time and made me come to the relization that in 10 or 20 years technology will become something we have never imagined it would.  The model of mass media broke down how technology is used and how much we use it.  The strong foundation of Media is important because its so beneficially powerful when we use it almost everyday.
The downside to new technology is realizing slowly were forgetting the more classical high culture because we don't really need to go back and relate to it.  The perspective of high and low culture on a culture skyscraper or map is easy to understand why each culture is more distinct and different.  It catorgizes all the symbols between high and low culture and makes it clear of to how much our culture has changed over the past century.  In the next couple captions it starts getting into details about how modernism and postmodernism are joined together.  For example: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, It throws together different cultual peices.  This example mixes english literature and horror films which creates an unusual satire.
Although the postmodernism and modernism times are very different, one similar attribute of the two is the ability to critisize the work during these times.  Five steps to this critical process begins with writing a description, then forming an analysis, after make an interpretation, than give an evalution, and finally form and engagment.  These steps help us not only understand a news story ,but also support a critism you could make upon a certain subject.
