Propaganda Holocaust

posted Oct 17, 2011, 10:45 AM by Katie Lewis

I learned a lot from reading the website. I learned all about propaganda and what it means. They still have trouble totally defining propaganda, but I got what the main meaning of propaganda was. Propaganda is trying to get people to follow that thing to make it better. I also learned about what Hitler was doing before the Holocaust started. I really do not like learning about Hitler, because he is such a terrible person. He could have been a good guy, but he chose to kill millions of people instead. He was actually even a soldier during the World War 1, but everything that he did had a lot of reasoning behind it. I learned that the propaganda for Hitler was trying to sell him out as some nice, father like, military leader. The propaganda was idiolizing Hitler, and making him out as something that he really was not.

An example of modern propaganda would be like the US Army advertising to get people to join the army, because it will make them better.

Another example of propaganda would be like the pink ribbon that represents breast cancer awareness that we see everywhere. We see these ribbons, because they are trying to advertise for your money to help with the breast cancer.

Pepsi Assembly

I thought that the Pepsi Assembly over all went really good. There were some things that I would have changed about it if I could have, but most of it was decent. They put the movie together really well, with a lot of different uses of media and technology. They tied in interviews and movies within the movie. I liked how they tied in movies and interviews, because it made the assembly have more meaning and get a point across to people. The stories from other people were good, because it showed us that life changing events can happen to anyone, and we need to be thankful for every minute of life we have. I did not like one of the stories though because it was about suicide, and that scares me around high school students because I think it puts wrong thoughts in students heads. I enjoyed watching the movie though, and it really opened my eyes. It showed me I do not need to text and drive, because I can wait till i get to my destination to reply. It also showed me that I do not need to be so brave, and I need to realize that something bad could happen to me too and I need to be careful.

Reaction to 9/11 Video

posted Sep 16, 2011, 10:46 AM by Katie Lewis

The video that we watched in class on September 11th, was very eye opening for me. I did not really know just exactly what happened on that day till we watched that video. I was in shock the whole time while watching it .
I could not believe that I was looking at people on that video who may or may not be living now. I had so much heart for all of those fire fighters who were doing all that they could for those people in the towers, and were risking their own lives. The firefighters and police officers on that day had a lot of strength and bravery, and I am so proud of those men and women.
There was so much to take in during that video, and most of it did not even seem real. For instance, when people were just jumping out of the towers you did not think something like that could even be real. I tried to put myself in the position of some of the people that were on that video, and I do not know what I would do if I knew I was trapped in those towers and only had minutes left of my life.
I know that the people who had friends and family in this video might look at this video a little differently. I think for some they might  be upset that we were able to watch it and see some of their family before they passed away, and some might like the video because it is all that they have left of their loved one. I could not imagine what some people went through on that day.
I think this video is pretty bittersweet, and affects everyone a lot differently. In my eyes, I think this is something that needs to be published, because I do not think we should ever forget anything like this. I think everyone needs to watch it and see just the crazy things that can happen at anytime. We need to be thankful for every minute of life that we have.

10th Anniversary of 9/11

9/11 is a big day that affected so many people in America. It is a day that does not need to be disrespected in any way. I do not think that any one needs to be advertising for it or making money from it in any way.  The memorial that they made in place of the towers in New York City is enough in my eyes. There is no need for people to be making money off of what happened that day. Companies are making things such as wine glasses about that day, and they only donate ten percent to the memorial. I think its rediculous that we want money so bad that we will advertise about a day that has hurt so many people. I think if you want to know anything about 9/11, you just need to go to the memorial and learn about it all. I do not personally know someone that passed away on that day, but there are so many familes and people that lost loved ones on that day, and we should respect them and think about them before we start selling things  about that day. I do not think they would like to hear about people making money off of the loved ones they lost. I think some people and companies have taken this issue way to far, and we need to realize that it is not about us and how much money we can make.

September 11th, 2001 is a day that opened many eyes of Americans. We need to be thankful for every minute that we have, because something so destructive and heartbreaking can happen in a blink of an eye.

Chapter 1

I thought reading over the packet of Chapter One was pretty eye opening. It was crazy to see all of the different ways that technology has changed over the years. It was not very long ago that we did not have cellphones or internet, and now we would be lonely without either one of those things. We have not only advanced in the way of devices, but also the way we communicate. We are now able to commuicate with people around the world, instead of just people in our country or even town. We used to just walk to a neighbors house to have a chat, but now if we want we can call a friend in Europe. I really liked reading chapter one, and I am glad I live in the time period I do. I know that before long kids are gonna b reading back on our time and think of how deprived we were, when we really arent.
I also thought the changes in media was a big difference I saw in chapter one. We have advanced dramatically when it comes to the way we recieve news and updates. We can keep up with people all over the world, and know what is going on everywhere.

Blogging Responsibly

Some potential dangers of blogging is things like cyberbulling and putting out too much information. These are both big concerns, because we have to deal with cyberbulling all the time when kids are hurting other kids through their words, and we also put out too information that does not be on the internet. Students need to keep in mind while blogging that they need to be careful what they put on the blogs because since they are on the internet anyone could see him.
Rules:
1.) Dont put anything on your blogs that you would not want the world to see.
2.) Be nice in your blogs, because people can get their feelings hurt easily.
