Welcome to the website for John David Rose (aka J. Davidson Hero)

I'm an aspiring science fiction and fantasy writer and poet.  I grew up in the northwoods of Wisconsin.  I attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where I majored in English and minored in creative writing.  I eventually completed an M.A. in English concentrating on science fiction and American poetry of the early Twentieth Century.  My master's thesis was about the use of irony and racial alienation in the science fiction of Cordwainer Smith.  I also have an Associate of Science degree in computer programming.  I've worked at a papermill, a University library, and for a number of years as a safety administrator for an electric and gas utility and as a computer systems specialist for the world's largest producer of horseradish.  I consider myself a bibliophile and have been collecting early editions of the works of Jules Verne for the last few years.  I also enjoy dabbling in computer illustration and filmmaking.  I currently live in Wisconsin with my wife and our three children.

"Poetry is a sort of inspired mathematics, which gives us equations, not for abstract figures, triangles, squares, and the like, but for the human emotions. If one has a mind which inclines to magic rather than science, one will prefer to speak of these equations as spells or incantations; it sounds more arcane, mysterious, recondite.  ~Ezra Pound
