The goal of our lab is to develop noninvasive functional and diffusion MRI methods and imaging markers for early detection of neural plasticity in activity and connectivity to neurocytoarchitecture, and for evaluation of treatment in neurodegenerative diseases. Recently we used activity-induced Manganese-dependent contrast to map rat barrel activation following whisker stimulation, and used BOLD functional MRI to map plasticity in the forepaw digit barrel subfield of rat brains. We evaluated the rabbit brain injury after cerebral hemisphere radiation exposure, and after infection of Angiostrongylus Cantonensis using advanced diffusion methods. We used MEMRI to prove Ceftriaxone prevents the neurodegeneration and decreased neurogenesis in a Parkinson’s disease rat model. We also established neuroimaging markers in major depression disorder with self-harm, patient with obesity, breast cancer patient, and betel quid chewer.
