The goal of AIMRI lab is to develop noninvasive functional and diffusion MRI methods and imaging markers for early detection of neural plasticity in activity and connectivity to neurocytoarchitecture, and for evaluation of treatment in neurodegenerative diseases. We also use machine learning and deep learning to predict disease status with multiple MRI features. 

(I) We used activity-induced Manganese-dependent contrast to map rat barrel activation following whisker stimulation, and used BOLD functional MRI (fMRI) to map plasticity in the forepaw digit barrel subfield of rat brains.

(II) We evaluated the rabbit brain development and brain injury after cerebral hemisphere radiation exposure using generalized q-sampling imaging (GQI).

(III) We also evaluated the rat and rabbit brain changes after infection of Angiostrongylus Cantonensis using advanced diffusion methods.

(IV) We used manganese-enhanced MRI (MEMRI) to prove Ceftriaxone prevents the neurodegeneration and decreased neurogenesis in a Parkinson’s disease rat model. We also used resting-state fMRI to investigate the effects of taurine in spontaneously hypertensive rats.

(V) we used GQI, resting-state fMRI and graph theoretical analysis to reveal the gender differences in the structural connectome of the teenage brain, and to evaluate the structural and functional connectivity changes in betel-quid chewers.

(VI) We established neuroimaging markers in major depression disorder with suicide attempt or with suicide ideation, breast cancer patient, patient with obesity, and Chinese-speaking children with specific learning disabilities. 

(VII) We also used multiple MRI features and machine-learning to predict chemo-brain in breast cancer survivors.
