Large- and small-scale movements of bull sharks

Horizontal and vertical movements of bull sharks are investigated using satellite and acoustic tags. To date, 20 pop-up satellite archival tags were attached to adult bull sharks in the Bahamas and in Fiji. Results indicate that bull sharks show some fidelity to specific coastal areas with only limited horizontal movements away from the tagging site after tag attachment, and highlight the importance of coastal inshore habitats for this charismatic species.. In the Bahamas, sharks were detected mostly in the upper 20 m of the water column in water 25–26° C, whereas sharks tagged in Fiji spent most of their time below 20 m in water usually > 26° C.
