Dr Javier Fernández-Macho, Full Professor of Econometrics.
Javier Fernández-Macho is Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Economics (1986) and Master of Science (MSc) in Statistics (1983) from the London School of Economics (Department of Statistics and Mathematical Science).
Currently, he is Coordinator of the Master in Economics: Tools of Economic Analysis, a master degree offered jointly by the Universities of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Cantabria (UC) and Oviedo (UO), and Full Professor of Econometrics at the Department of Quantitative Methods of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) where he lectures on Econometrics and Time Series Analysis.
He was Director of the Institute of Public Economics from 2010 to 2017.
In 2012, he received the Euskoiker Foundation Award for Social Science Research.
During 2013, he was made an associate member of Nuffield College (University of Oxford).
He is one of the lead researchers of the Interreg Atlantic Area (ERDF) Moses project and in Marnet, an EU transnational network aiming to collate comparable data to help support marine socio-economic development initiatives in the European Atlantic Area.
Javier Fernandez-Macho has accredited five six-year research terms and one transfer and innovation term to the Spanish National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA). His main research publications in international scientific journals include contributions on wavelet analysis, state-space and frequency-domain time series analysis, spatial stochastic processes and methodological aspects of economic evaluation models. In the latter field, he has conducted R&D projects related to the assessment of socioeconomic impacts of maritime industries, environmental public projects and large infrastructures such as the new high-speed Basque Railway Network. His publications include more than 30 JCR-indexed articles. He has an h (Google Scholar) index of 17 with over 800 citations. He has also directed 20 research projects financed by the UPV / EHU, the Basque Government, the Ministry of Education and the European Commission and has participated in more than 20 R&D contracts (10 as project director) with private companies and public administrations.
He is also the author of several books on the theory and practice of Econometrics.
