Recommanded Book on Java SE:

Java Platform, Standard Edition (also known as Java 2 Platform) lets you develop and deploy Java applications on desktops and servers, as well as today's demanding Embedded and Real-Time environments. Java SE includes classes that support the development of Java Web Services and provides the foundation for Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE).

Tutorials and Articals

- Effective Java Exceptions (Jan 2007, DevtoDev)
Discusses the use of exceptions in Java and proposes a way of thinking about exceptions to help guide when to use checked versus unchecked exceptions. It separates exceptional conditions into faults and contingencies and describes how to handle each.

- Inside Class Loaders (Dec 2003, OnJava)
An article that exposes the Java classloader hierarchy clearly, illustrates why classloader knowledge is important, and finally, shows an example of an application with multiple classloaders. Considering that multiple classloaders is standard for Java EE, it's good knowledge to have.
