JPE 0.5.2 Runtime Testing Needed

posted Dec 30, 2010, 2:05 AM by Wan Aizuddin

The message below is from redllar,

I've uploaded yet another new version for limited public testing when you have the time. It's at http://jauntepe.sourceforge.net/downloads/jauntePE052defRuntime.zip.

I need this tested since I took out almost all of the shell-related hooks in preparation for making the remaining "Vista and newer" file system issue's fixes. I know I had put the hooks in place originally for some valid reason, but I can't figure out why. And the testing I've done here indicates that they're not needed. And I hope this is the case, since otherwise I might not be able to fix things for good for Vista and newer.

To help alleviate the slowdown that the above fixes will invariably cause, I have also reworked the code that does the lookup for special folder path matching, so that it's now about twice as fast. But I need it tested within a variety of usage cases to try and ensure that I haven't missed some scenario that would cause it to fail where the old, slow and simplistic method would not.

Thanks.

Open-source & closed-source version

posted Dec 7, 2010, 7:24 AM by Wan Aizuddin   [ updated Dec 30, 2010, 2:00 AM ]

As in the previous news, we were happy with the JauntePE direction to be with the open-source. Now it is in a state of transition, moving from a closed-source project, to an open-source project. In order to smooth out the transition, here is what is planned:

Closed-source version

  • The closed-source version is the version that that uses MadCodeHook (MCH) api-hooking library
  • It will be released in version 05x. It will continue to be released until the open-source version is stable
  • Sometimes it might be referred to as MCH JauntePE
  • It will be kept and maintained here at the JauntePE Google Site

Open-source version

  • The open-source version is the version that uses the new dll injection and api hooking methods
  • It will be released in versions 060 and above
  • Sometimes it might be referred to as Non-MCH JauntePE
  • For the future, a new JauntePE SF website has been created. It will be used to keep and maintain the open-source version.
