The Indianapolis Region
Jane Austen Society of North America
bids you WELCOME!
Welcome to the website for the Jane Austen Society of North America--Indianapolis Region (JASNA-IR). I hope the information presented here will prove helpful and informative. We are a relatively new group, formed originally in 2006 and re-organized in 2008. Before the formation of this group, the Jane Austen fans in Indiana would have been members of the North American group (JASNA) and/or a nearby region--Chicago, Dayton, or Louisville-- but had no central, more conveniently located group with which to meet and discuss all things Austen.
Our local group has 135 contacts on our email list, 44 of whom are members of JASNA. We welcome anyone interested in Jane Austen and the Regency Period. Our meetings are informal, sometimes discussing one of Austen's novels, or sometimes mounting a special event such as a trip to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, local tea room or winery, and always an annual December tea to toast Jane Austen on her birthday. Please take a moment to look at the schedule of events 2014 and 2015 posted on this site.
Anyone who is a member of JASNA may attend any regional meeting; the only stipulation is that members who attend regional meetings then become members of the international organization JASNA). The benefits of this membership are many, especially receiving the wonderful publication, Persuasions as well as JASNA News which is published three times a year. For more information on membershhip in JASNA, go to www.jasna.org.
