Davis Begay
Honorary Consul General of Japan
Mr. Davis Begay , Honorary Consul General of Japan at Albuquerque, was officially appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and confirmed by the United States Government of State April 2009.
He is the first appointed Japan's Honorary Consul General for the State of New Mexico. Before his appointment, he was appointed New Mexico Liaison to the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles on June 6, 1993 by Consul General Seiichiro Noboru and later under the Denver Consulate which he held until his recent appointment.
The main function of an Honorary Consul General of Japan is to serve as a representative of the Japanese Government, in close coordination with the Consulate-General of Japan at Denver. In addition, to make various services available to Japanese Nationals and have the responsibility for the protection of Japanese citizens.
Consul-General Takeuchi hosts Conferment Ceremony for Mr. Davis Begay (January 15, 2020)
On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, a conferment ceremony for the 2019 Autumn Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals was held at Albuquerque, New Mexico where Consul-General Midori Takeuchi presented the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon to Mr. Davis Begay, Honorary Consul of Japan in Albuquerque.
Mr. Begay’s wife, friends, officers from City of Albuquerque, Albuquerque Sasebo Sister City Committee members attended the ceremony. Consul-General Takeuchi gave the congratulatory remarks and presented his decoration and certificate to Mr. Begay, after which Mr. Begay gave his reply address.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga announced Monday April 1st ( March 31, 8:45 PM MST) the new Imperial era will be Reiwa.
The new era will start on May 1st, when Crown Price Naruhito ascends to the Chrysanthemum Throne.
The name derived fro the "Manyoshu" Japan's oldest poetry collection.

New Mexico Okinawa Goodwill Ambassador Appointed
Albuquerque, March 31, 2016: Mrs. Sanae Wright, past-secretary of Okinawa Kenjinkai, was recently appointed as the Shin Uchina-Minkan Taishi or New Okinawa Goodwill Ambassador by the Okinawa Prefecture government. Appointment is in recognition of her dedication to activities at both home and aboard with the cultivation of international bridge between Okinawa and New Mexico communities.
