Introduction

You and a few of your friends have just started your own travel company. and it's important that your business attract customers. There is a large group of American tourists who want to visit Japan but don't know anything about the country. Therefore, it's your job to plan their tour - accommodations, restaurants, historic sites, transportation.

WHY WILL YOUR TOUR BE THE BEST AND MOST ECONOMIC CHOICE TO THIS GROUP OF 30 AMERICAN TOURISTS?

The Task

Your task is to design and price a 14 day tour of Japan that is economical and well-planned.

·        Where will they stay?

·        How will they get there?

·        Where will they eat?

·        Who will guide the tours in each of the cities you visit?

·        What major sites will they see?

·        What historic background will you provide?

·        Where will they eat? What are the menus like?

·        What meals are provided?

·        How much will this package tour cost each individual?

·        Your final project must include a video or computer presentation.

The Process
  1. First, you'll be assigned to a team of four students.
  2. Once each individual has picked a task to complete-a)accommodations, b)historic/tourist sites/museums, c)transportation, d)restaurants/food and shopping, you will begin your research.
  3. As a group, you will plan which cities your tour group will visit.  You must include Tokyo and the JR Line. Since you have already done some of this in a previous project, you already have a head start.
  4. Each individual will then proceed to plan out the task assigned.
  5. You will use WebPath Express as your search engine resource. This is located on the library Destiny website: http://destiny.cv.k12.ca.us:8080/cataloging/servlet/presentwpesearchform.do?l2m=WebPath%20Express
  6. You may also use Alameda County Library databases as another source of information. http://www.aclibrary.org/research/articlesDataBases/default.asp?topic=ArticlesDataBases&cat=ArticlesDataBases (You will need a library card to access these databases. You may apply for an instant eCard at https://alam1.aclibrary.org/selfreg~S2.)
  7. Once each individual has accumulated the information for the assigned task, the group will then organize how they will present their tour to the group. Will you include maps? Information on weather? Japanese words and phrases? How will you organize your presentation?
  8. Does your tour offer any perks to your clients? Maybe tickets to a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony or other activity?
