Education 

Jamie Hovorka completed his Master's degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas in August of 2005. During his two years at the school he played lead trumpet in the Grammy nominated One O'Clock Lab Band, and was featured on two CDs with the group - Lab 2004 and Lab 2005, and a DVD - Live in Thailand

With this ensemble Jamie supported musicians such as Dave Douglas, Benny Golson, Marvin Stamm, Phil Woods, and Nicolas Payton, among others. The group traveled widely, including a trip to Thailand to play for the King's birthday party, as well as to Poland, New York City (during the 2004 IAJE conference), Chicago (the Midwest Band Clinic), and the Pacific Northwest.

Jamie was awarded the Bill Collins Sr. Scholarship in Jazz Trumpet for each of his four semesters at the school, and was a Teaching Fellow.

Jamie received his Bachelor's degree in Classical Performance from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, while attending jazz classes at Capilano College.

His trumpet teachers have included Paul Baron, Martin Berinbaum, Brad Turner, Mike Steinel, Dave Douglas, and Jay Saunders.
