Parrilla-Vallespín, I., Alberich-Pascual, J., Ruiz-Rodríguez, A. (2020). Origins of the institutionalization of film training in Spain. The academies for the training of actors in the early 20th century. Revista de Educación, 390.

Abstract: This paper addresses the beginnings of the institutionalization processes of film training in Spain; it specifically focuses on the “film academies”, which appeared in the twenties in twentieth-century Barcelona. The interest in these schools, which were pioneers in teaching performing arts for cinema, lies in the role that they played in promoting filmmaking and in the fact that it is a subject which has received little attention in Spanish communication studies. Thus, this paper aims to explain the emergence of such entities and demonstrate the fundamental role that they had in the institutionalization processes mentioned above. This objective has been achieved through the study of documentary sources whose information has been analysed by means of the construction of descriptive systems and by examining them based on theory. Consequently, a historical reconstruction of the educational panorama of the period, as well as a detailed analysis has been obtained, which are supported by Peter Berger and Thomas Luckmann’s theory of social constructionism. The results achieved reveal the vital role that these academies played in the institutionalization of film training in Spain by helping to establish, through their activity, the belief in the usefulness of academic training for the film professions.

Abstract: The importance of ancient cartography for the environmental economic and strategic planning of a geographical space is fundamental for understanding the spatial patterns of the past in order to project the future decisions relative to the planning of the territory. Based on the research of guides, protocols and the technical and scientific literature as in the previous experience of authors in related projects, this paper realize a revision an systematization of the digitation and publication of old cartography in digital media that can be useful for the development of future library, public archives, universities and other institutions interested in deploying and making accessible their cartographic collections in digital format. The present paper offers as a result a methodological guide to solve this problematic common to information, geography and history sciences.

Abstract: This paper aims to conduct a historical and conceptual review of authorship in television production, taking auteur theory applied to the television media as a reference. For this purpose, the qualitative methodology has been used to carry out a bibliographic and documentary analysis of the author concept in the film and television industry. Despite the collaborative nature of television production, the results obtained suggest the importance of the TV series executive producer’s individual authorship during this process, who is also known as the “showrunner”. They are ultimately responsible for the project’s production, applying a creative and perso al style to their entire work. The authorship, influenced by the television channel and the audience, promotes the consideration of f iction TV series as a quality cultural product, which affects its promotional strategies.

Abstract: Online videoactivism is a recent audiovisual formula that allows audiovisual groups, composed by citizens fair from institutional practice, to film their own audiovisual projects, sometimes characterized with a transforming social component. The paper analyzes some experiences that follow this direction: anonymity and lack of personal recognition in the figure of the filmmaker are the main features. Malaguistán complaints with pieces distributed by Internet, about the precarious situation of infrastructure and citizen space in Malaga and with an special kind of audiovisual language that combines ways of raw narrative with a parodic edition based on irony.

Cantón-Correa, F.J.; Alberich-Pascual, J. (2019). Construcción social de la imagen de una ciudad a través de Instagram: el caso de Granada. El profesional de la información, v. 28, n. 1, e280108.

Abstract: Our digital world is increasingly visual. Mobile applications focused on digital photography such as Instagram are vehicles for the creation, manipulation and instant diffusion of images. Instagram is therefore an open window to research in Social Sciences and Digital Humanities, and an opportunity to investigate how young users of this application develop visual culture in their local environments through global visual languages. The present work analyzes the production of Instagram in Granada from a sample of 955.564 publications and 375.758 images published and geolocated over a year (between April 2017 and April 2018), with the aim of showing how the image of a city is socially constructed. The geographical, social network, and content analysis of the study sample has allowed to establish which are the main focal points of visual attraction of the city, as well as the most active neighborhoods and districts; the most relevant members of a user network that is self-constructed in a heterogeneous and open manner, with strong intermediary nodes of an “instagramist” style that connect subcommunities; as well as the widespread use of the application both for business promotion and for the development of individual creativity. All this indicates how the Instagram publications in Granada make visible the importance and incidence of tourism in the city.

Abstract: This article analyses different proposals of collaborative film creation that reject single authorship. Firstly, the reach and significance of two groups of filmmakers in the Spanish context, the Colectivo Cine de Clase and the Colectivo Cine Sin Autor. Belonging to different periods, both collectives find a connection in their collaborative creation, which also implies a rupture with the mythol-ogization of single authorship. The article addresses this common removal of individual narrative in audiovisual creation teams in order to then focus on their social basis as well as on their attempt to establish new ways of representation. Then we analyse other types of participatory cinema, which is characteristic of the digital era, that also include collective authorship. They often incorporate recent creation formats, processes and approaches, among which we emphasise transmedia narratives, which, occasionally, create new perspectives on author-ship. After providing a discussion on the contributions and limits of this collab-orative creation model to which the selected cases belong, we mention some contributions that these creation approaches, especially transmedia narratives, can offer to contemporary participatory cinema and to collective authorship.

Abstract: This article reviews the professional profile of the showrunner in the audiovisual industry, from a historical and conceptual perspective: the background, the features that define it, and the TV media position. To do so, qualitative methodology has been used to conduct a thorough bibliographic review, and examine the emergence and development of the “showrunner” concept in television history, and the term used to describe it. We then analysed the “executive producer” and “creative producer” categories, both of which are associated with the objective of the study, to determine a generalized definition of the audiovisual showrunner. We have also examined the characteristics associated with this professional producer and writer position, the skill set required for the same, the roles and responsibilities to be managed during the production process, and the creative hallmark of authorship over the TV series. Finally, the results obtained suggest that this writer-producer position has existed since the onset of the television industry; however, the use of the term “showrunner” is more recent. Today, we see a revaluation of this profile in TV series production thanks to the generalized use of the concept “show runner”, and due to several historical, cultural, and technological factors that contribute to this situation.

Abstract: The present article offers a proposal of deconstruction of the news to adapt it to the new media placing the focus in the audiovisual -up of the textual-, incorporating the key ingredients of the digital environment (multimediality, hypertextuality, interactivity) and fixing paths through links and comments that allow both personalization with different levels of deepening as the integration of readers-users in the new communication paradigm of the digital world. Thus, we propose to change the inverted pyramid that has marked the rules of Journalism in the last century for a Rubik’s Cube that still use the 5W as a gateway to the transmedia news, in which each question can work as a hook and activate the multimedia and interactive itinerary that guides us inside the renewed information cube.

Revista de Teoría de la Literatura y Literatura Comparada, Vol. 28, Universidad de Zaragoza, España, ISSN 2255-5463.

Abstract: Transmedia narratives inaugurate significant processes of change and redefinition of roles within the framework of contemporary creative industries, giving rise to a long series of industrial, cultural, and aesthetic implications of revolutionary scope that is fundamental to address. The present article identifies five aesthetic vectors that are aimed at the new contemporary cultural expressions of a transmedial nature: 1. Transmedia opticity; 2. Process nature; 3. Transflâneurie; 4. Co-authoring; And 5. Expanded esthetics. The consideration and analysis of these makes it possible to highlight the singularity and aesthetic specificity of the narrative processes themselves and transmedial worlds, as well as to point out some of the new identifying characteristics of a transmedia aesthetic experience.

Abstract: Ever since Henry Jenkins published his oft-cited article on “Transmedia Storytelling” in Technology Review (2003), transmediality has become a crossroads and a meeting place for researchers from different disciplines (Media Studies, Narratology, Visual Arts, Marketing, Comparative Literature, Semiotics, Theatre and Performance Studies, Game Studies, Sociology, etc.) as well as authors and the public that are involved in the emerging forms of multiplatform and distributed story creation, production and participation that such transmediality involves. Likewise, intermediality, with the phenomenon of adaptations at its core, crossmedia franchises and new theories on storyworlds, also form part of the space for reflection, discussion and the intersection of digital arts, communication media and interactive technologies that are put forward in this volume of Artnodes. The articles that make up this edition convey the complexity and variety of perspectives and objects of study and the need to revise or rebuild the methods and theoretical and critical tools that are used to construct cultural practice in the digital paradigm.

Abstract: This article analyses the emergence of ground-breaking initiatives in transmedia collaborative film-making in contemporary Ibero-America. Firstly, we assess the unity and the narrative standardisation that has been predominant in past, collaborative film-making projects that have met with international success. We then go on to make a selection and analysis of emerging transmedia developments in Spanish and Latin American collaborative film productions over the last decade. Finally, we enter into a discussion about the results and implications for culture and the film industry that can be deduced from the transmedia collaborative explorations studied here.

Abstract: The dominant formulation of simulation theories in the 1980s and 1990s (Baudrillard, Lévy et al.) suggested a theoretical and technological paradigm based on the impersonation (when not substitution) of the real by the virtual. The present article explores the recent emergence of an integrated, mixed or altered conception of virtualisation in regards to the real, but no longer a substitutive one: a conception that is related to a significant set of digital technologies and current audiovisual uses (mixed reality, augmented reality, locative media and ego-shots). This conception pushes the importance of visuality -and the image- to the background in favour of mobility and ubiquity, which also suggests an understanding of emergent simulation practices and devices rooted in the real [...].

Abstract: The process of the implementation of new information technologies has so jolted the modern aesthetic experience that it has absorbed it into its own logic of speed, acceleration and disappearance. The hierarchies, not just the social and cultural ones but also the aesthetic ones, are crumbling. Faced with the primacy of what is artistic as an aesthetic theme, the contemporary aesthetic experience is closely linked to the existence of the masses, via the plural, chaotic discourse of the new (mass) media. Television, cinema, video and, finally, the appearance of cyberspace have meant an unprecedented process of intensified communications, characterised by its being turned into spectacle, and the transience and the fragmentation of aesthetic products. Our age, no longer the age of technical reproduction, is that of electronic simulation, its characteristic trait a new condition of what is visual and of representation dominated by instability. The procedural, multiform nature of the systems brings with it the chance to give open forms of shared authorship their place. In digital environments, the task of authorship often consists no longer of creating a closed series of scenes but of creating a system of narrative possibilities. Users of the system thus participate in a derived authorship in the sense that they determine via their interaction a concrete virtual construction that was previously non-existent as such. At the same time, the process of virtualising aesthetic production undoes its previous ties to a particular place and begins to define entities that are not linked to fixed coordinates. Virtuality is to be found in a ubiquity that is problematic in its inertias, interactions, origins and receptions which, at the same time, are unique and multiple. It exists without being there. It designates entities that are safe from single revision and admits manifestations in multiple forms and situations thanks to its capacity to become any node of information space provided with connectivity and to find its way there.
