Summer 2020 information

Information about summer 2020 is being obtained and updated below as it becomes available. If the section header has the "2020" year included it has been updated. If it still shows 2019 then it has not been updated yet. 

1) Summer School 2020 Details:

This year's summer school is Summer school is available to current 9th to 12th graders.Please complete the online form to apply. All classes for Session #1 will be online and due to the fluidity the stay at home orders Session #2 is still to be determined if there will be in-person classes. 

REGISTRATION INFO:  

  • Enrollment is from April 16, 2020 to June 2, 2020  CLICK HERE to enroll.   
  • Contact the Academic Counseling/Guidance Office at:  574.393.5300 with further questions. If no answer please email your counselor if you need to know what classes you may need to take.

WHEN:

  • SESSION #1: June 8 - June 26, 2020  from 8am-12pm (ONLINE ONLY)
  • SESSION #2: July 6 - July 24, 2020 from 8am-12pm (ONLINE or possibly IN-PERSON)
TRANSPORTATION:
School buses will NOT BE offered to Clay HS for the summer session 2020 if in-person classes are in fact offered. 

FREE TRANSPO REMINDER: 
Just a reminder for our students that our public bus service, TRANSPO, continues to provide free TRANSPO passes for our students. These may be used to travel anywhere their bus routes travel for summer jobs, entertainment etc.

3) Summer Reading List 2020 & FAQ's:

Summer reading is MANDATORY for the following English students:

  • English 9 Honors
  • English 9 Advanced
  • Pre-IB English
  • IB English
Incoming freshman do not have an essay due at the beginning of school but they will need to discuss and write about the novel in the first days of class so reading before returning to school is necessary. 

Summer reading is NOT-MANDATORY for the following English students however highly encouraged.

  • English 9 Regular
Written Assignment FAQ's:
1) WHEN DOES MY STUDENT GET THEIR WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT ? 
If the book indicates there is a "written assignment due" on the first day of class, please know this is given to each student before they leave for the summer from their current English teacher. 

2) IF MY STUDENT ACCIDENTLY MISPLACES THIS WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT SHEET CAN SHE/HE GET A REPLACEMENT ? YES, they can obtain a replacement from the Academic Counseling & Guidance office secretary during normal office hours throughout the summer. Their office number is: 574.393.5300  ext. 3 to arrange a time to pick one up.

Transpo Bus System 'Summer Travel Pass'. This can be used not just for summer school but for all their summer travel needs to jobs, shopping, visiting friends, etc.
