Jacque Gao's Research Site
Welcome to Jacque's research site! I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Humanities and Social Science at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHKSZ). I obtained my PhD in Political Science from the University of Rochester in August 2022.
My research interests span two subfields of international relations. My first line of research focuses on topics related to international and civil conflict, employing rigorous formal theoretical approaches to understand how various domestic and international factors cause conflict and bargaining breakdown. My second line of research focuses on topics at the intersection of international and comparative political economy, with a particular emphasis on understanding how a dictator’s survival strategies interact with increasing cross-border capital flows resulting from economic globalization. My research has been published in International Organization, The Review of International Organizations, Journal of Theoretical Politics, and Social Choice and Welfare.
I received my Master's degree in Economics from Stony Brook University in 2015 and my Bachelor's degree in Global Business and Information Systems from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2012. Before joining CUHKSZ, I was an Assistant Professor in the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
