Sharps Disposal Program

JACKSON COUNTY SHARPS DISPOSAL PROGRAM

The Jackson County Health Department has established a “Sharps Disposal Program”  in cooperation with Jackson County Solid Waste Management District for the proper disposal of household medical sharps to keep those sharps out of our daily trash, our landfill and to keep the citizens of Jackson County safe.

The program will work as follows:

  1. Sharps Disposal Container will be distributed to the citizens of Jackson County (only) for the disposal of their used medical sharps (needles & syringes) only.  No other waste is to be placed in the container.
  2. New clients will be required to supply their name, address and phone number.  This information will be logged onto our “Sharps Container Checkout Sheet”.  You will then be issued one new sharps disposal container.
  3. Each time you return a full container you will be issued a new container and this information will be logged onto your “Sharps Container Checkout Sheet”.
  4. Full containers should be returned and exchanged for a new container at the Health Department Monday – Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm.

This program will be in effect starting January 1, 2009 and will remain in effect as long as funding is available through the Jackson County Solid Waste Management District.

The Jackson County Health Department and the Jackson County Solid Waste Management District thank you for participating in this program to help make Jackson County a safer place to live and work.
