Izabella Agostinho Pena
Ph.D., Genetics and Molecular Biology (Unicamp, 2015)
Postdoctoral fellow at Whitehead Institute / MIT

I am a young researcher in love with science and biology. My main goal is to understand more about vitamin B6 and amino acid metabolism, as well as related diseases. My current research focuses on a particular metabolic disorder called Pyridoxine Dependent Epilepsy, related to a defect in the breakdown of Lysine. Currently, I am a postdoctoral research fellow at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, working under the supervision of Dr David M Sabatini.
Highlights of my skill and interest include (but hopefully not limited to):
  • Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering
  • Mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
  • Cell Biology
  • Protein Biochemistry and Structural Biology
  • Bioinformatics
  • Education for Science
  • Zebrafish models for rare diseases
  • Birdwatching, Photography, painting, etc...
