About Us

Phil Shinn is a communication technology geek with a PhD in linguistics.  He has worked for SpeechPro, Cyara, Morgan Stanley, Genesys, Alcatel-Lucent, Bank of America, Hughes Research Labs, HeyAnita, Citibank,  Unisys and Speech Systems, among others.  He has designed and built dozens of speech and natural language applications in over 20 years in the industry. He is an application developer, voice user interface designer, speech scientist, text processing developer, program manager and project manager.  He is a principal author of the Voice User Interface Designer (VUID) Toolbox, an open source tool kit for designing speech recognition applications, and the founder of the VUIDs yahoo group , a forum for voice user interface designers which has been in operation since 2003 and has more than 500 members. Phil has served on the board of the Association of Voice Interaction Designers (AVIxD) and is currently on the board of the Applied Voice Input Output Society (AVIOS).  His resume is here.  A selection of papers and presentations is here.  Phil is based in New York city.
