Aiming at understanding and development of systematic procedures of design and operation of chemical processes, Process Systems Engineering (PSE) has contributed to growth of Korean manufacturing industry for last several decades. Today’s chemical processes include not only traditional macroscopic systems such as refinery and petrochemical plants, but also microscopic systems such as bio and semiconductor manufacturing. Furthermore, areas of PSE now embrace design of products and raw materials as well as design and management of products’ supply chain.

Launched in 2009, Intelligent Systems Laboratory (ISL) is conducting PSE research, focusing on solving problems regarding sustainability and life science. ISL’s research is funded by several Korean Ministries such as Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy. ISL is also collaborating with its industrial partners for R&D and commercialization.
