Among Idaho State’s many different degrees are two programs that in which you
might be interested: a major and a minor in outdoor education.

Here's an idea. While working on another major at Idaho State, you can take classes on the side which allow you to obtain an Outdoor Education Minor. It isn't all about studying and classroom work. Idaho State University also has a plethora of outdoor activities for students that are recreational in nature. There are no pressures. No grades involved. These activities are simply for fun and relaxation - and are offered through Idaho State University Outdoor Adventure Center. The Adventure Center organize hikes, ski excursions, river trips, backpacking jaunts, mountain bike outings, dutch oven feeds, climbing tours, mountain rambles, and more.

Idaho State University is also one of the first universities to offer adventurous outdoor activities for people with disabilities through the Cooperative Wilderness Handicapped Outdoor Group (C. W. HOG). C.W. HOG members have run the rapids of the Colorado through the Grand Canyon, they've trekked to Everest Base Camp. Of course, they aren't always off on big expeditions. While going to school, they ski, climb, paddle and explore the outdoors.

The offices of the National Outdoor Book Awards, the largest book award program in the outdoor world, are housed at Idaho State University. Each year, after extensive review by national judging panels, the program announces the winners of 10 different categories.

New Books by Our Faculty
Members of the Outdoor Education faculty at Idaho State University (ISU) are deeply involved in the outdoor community. Idaho's best selling paddling book (now in it's 4th printing) is Guide to Idaho Paddling. It is by Ron Watters and is a comprehensive guide to Idaho rivers which covers the state's flatwater and easy whitewater river runs.
In addition, Watters maintain the Idaho Paddler's Website which includes updated info on Idaho rivers, high resolution map booklets, and detailed descriptions of paddle trips in the state.
