Greetings! My name is Beth Still and I have been a member of ISTE since 2008.  I have also been a member of NETA, an ISTE affiliate since 2009.  The first time I attended ISTE was back in 2008 when it was in the beautiful city of San Antonio.  I was attending this conference alone and I was a little (ok,  A LOT) intimidated.  I did not know anyone who was going so I joined the conference Ning to network and meet some people ahead of time.  It turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life.  I was able to engage in discussions with a variety of people before the conference and get great tips and hints about how to “survive” the conference from people who attended in the past.

It was because of networking opportunities on the conference Ning that I met my mentor, Cory Plough.  He was a conference veteran and helped me figure out how to find sessions and manage my time so I could make the most of ISTE. Without his help I would have been completely lost.  My first ISTE experience had a significant and lasting impact on my career.  One of my passions is helping first time ISTE attendees feel that same connection and energy.

This year I was asked by ISTE to help with a new area called the Newbie Lounge. It will be located on the 3rd floor Mezzanine. The idea is for this to be a welcoming space for conference newcomers where they can hang out, network, and get advice without feeling like a Newbie.  Please say hi if you see me and remember to relax and enjoy the conference!
