For more information on these topics, please see below.

1. ISSS Availability during International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation begins on Sunday! The ISSS staff will be busy preparing for Orientation for the rest of this week (Aug. 17-20) and will be away from the office for Orientation all next week (Aug. 22-27). This means that we will not be processing any paperwork or be available for appointments. Please make your plans accordingly. Paperwork that is dropped off during this period will not be processed until the first week of classes.

We appreciate your patience.

2. Do you need a roommate this fall? Do you know of rooms/apartments for rent? New international students are coming and will be looking for housing! If you are looking for someone to share your apartment with, or if you know of rooms/apartments for rent, please let ISSS know. The newly arriving international students are starting to come into the ISSS office and are looking for places to live.

3. Be a Buddy to newly arriving international students in Fall 2010. Buddies for new students needed urgently!

Because of the large number of new international students requesting to be placed with a Buddy for the first couple weeks of classes, ISSS is asking again that if you have not signed up to be a Buddy, please think about being a helping resource for a new international student – just to help them find their way through their first days here in Albany.

Do you remember what it was like when you first arrived at UAlbany? Most new students feel overwhelmed. But you can help! Be a Buddy to a New International Student! Volunteers are needed to assist new international students before they come to Albany and during the first 2 - 3 weeks of classes in Fall 2010. See the attached flier for more information and a form to send us to say you'd like to help.

Right now, we have lots of students from around the world asking for a buddy for the beginning of the Fall 2010 semester.

4. Please check your MyUAlbany account for your “Permanent Address” – this address MUST be your address in your home country. In the near future, ISSS and the University at Albany are upgrading their computer systems so that we can do batch processing – where the university’s computer talks directly to the SEVIS computer. So, because you are here as international students, your “Permanent Address” field in MyUAlbany MUST be your address in your home country. If you have a US address in that field, you may be missed when it comes time to do the SEVIS registrations in “batch” every semester. This could cause you trouble later on because your record may be terminated if you do not get registered

It is VERY important that this information is correct in your record – please check it again to be absolutely certain the information is correct.

5. Insurance Waiver Request Deadline - Friday, October 1, 2010. Waiver request deadline for the Fall 2010 term or 2010/2011 Academic Year is Friday, October 1, 2010. Please stop by the Office of International Education to receive a waiver application. No applications will be received after the deadline date. You can check the status on your MYUALBANY account once bills are generated for the Fall semester

6. English Classes for International Students. Please see the attached list for the English classes being offered on campus this Fall semester!
