      4. What are your plans for Thanksgiving? ISSS has a couple of good options!

      A.    International Student & Scholar Services, along with the Graduate Student Organization, invites you to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday, November 24th  (the day before Thanksgiving) at 12 Noon – in the SEFCU Arena’s Hall of Fame Room. The cost to attend is $5.00 per person, and each student is allowed two tickets, one for yourself and one for a guest.  Sign up for all students is at the GSO Office located in CC 165B. Tickets are limited, so please sign up early to get yours!

      B.   Join a local host family and share in the tradition of the Thanksgiving holiday in an American home.  It will be a special opportunity for you to experience American culture and share some of your own with your hosts!  This dinner will take place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 25th.  Please see the attached application for information on how to sign up.

      5. New USCIS Filing Fees (Including New Filing Fee for Optional Practical Training) Take Effect November 23.  Apply Soon to Avoid $40.00 Increase!

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced new filing fees for benefits applications (Including OPT), which are filed with one of the US Citizenship and Immigration (USCIS) Service Centers or Field Offices.

The new fees are effective November 23, 2010. Applications or petitions mailed, postmarked, or otherwise filed on or after November 23, 2010 must include the new fee.

      • Form I-765 Application for Employment Authorization – the fee will increase from $340 to $380 (includes OPT applications)

The ISSS recognizes that some students who will graduate in December 2010 and plan to apply for Optional Practical Training may decide to file their applications early to avoid paying the higher $380 filing fee.  Students are urged to submit such applications to the ISSS before November 7 to be sure that your application is processed in time for you to mail it to the USCIS Lockbox Facility before November 23.
