DAILY PARTICIPATION/WORKOUTS:
The majority of credit earned in a physical education class relies on your physical presences and participation in daily activities. Working in another class, counseling appointments, field trips, and excused absences are all examples of missed workouts wherein students are strongly encouraged to make up these missed workouts in order to maximize their participation grade.
P.E. ATTIRE:
YOU ARE EXPECTED TO CHANGE FOR CLASS AND NOT TO WEAR THE SAME CLOTHES YOU WORE TO SCHOOL.
A. IHS PE SHIRT or approved athletic t-shirt w/ student NAME on FRONT and BACK of the shirt.
PE Shirt must have sleeves and must cover your belly button
Sweatshirts/Light Jackets (rain shell) may be worn if appropriate for the activity.
Blankets, large puffy coats, long trench coats are NEVER appropriate for PE.
B. Proper athletic shorts, sweats or workout pants
Pajama Pants and Jeans are NEVER acceptable
Cargo shorts/hiking pants only acceptable to bring on a hike day
"Joggers" that you wore to school are not acceptable. Clear with teacher if have pair you will change into.
C. Proper athletic footwear (tennis/court/running/basketball shoes)
Shoes should have laces and properly tied. Any without laces must be approved by your teacher.
SOCKS are required for hygienic purposes and to prevent blisters
Fashion shoes (Vans, Keds,etc) not built for running and jumping are not appropriate
Slippers, Sandal, Crocs, etc. are NEVER appropriate
Hiking Boots are only appropriate for hiking, not for jogging and indoor activities
D. HATS
Baseball style hat only appropriate if worn properly OUTDOORS to block sun during tennis or softball.
A knit hat or beanie is acceptable on a hike or jog day OUTDOORS, when cold.
E. Medical Devices (MANDATORY if applicable) - Examples: Inhaler, EpiPen, etc
LOCKER ROOMS:
The locker rooms are extension of the classroom. As such, failure to adhere to locker room policy and procedure will result in a loss daily of participation points
A. PE students are prohibited from the team rooms during class time.
B. Students are expected to use available garbage cans and recycle bins to keep locker room clean.
C. Students are expected to refrain from foul language and inappropriate conversation in the locker rooms.
D. Lockers, Locks & Baskets
Lockers are for use during the class period only. Students may not occupy a locker for the day/overnight.
Each student is assigned a lock and is required to:
Maintain their own combination (list in phone or other location for access)
Lock up their personal belongings each and every class period
Return their lock to their assigned basket/cubby at the end of each class period
Each student is assigned a basket or cubby location in the locker room and required to:
Store PE clothes (T-Shirt, shorts/sweats, shoes, extra socks) for use during class
Return basket to assigned location at the end of each class period
E. Dismissal – Students must remain in the PE area (locker room or back PE hallway) until the bell to dismiss
F. Class Change or End of Semester
Students are required to clean out their basket and return their lock.
Failure to properly return lock and/or clear out assigned basket will result in a FINE.
Items left behind will remain in lost and found for one week before being discarded or donated.
An unreturned/lost lock will result in a $6 fine to cover cost of the lock.
GENERAL CLASS and FACILITY USE EXPECTATIONS:
A. Food/Drink- Students are permitted to bring water (H2O) to class. Any type of food or gum, and sports drinks or soda are NOT permitted in class or in any gym/athletic facility.
B. Restroom Use- The passing period and changing time in locker rooms gives all PE students a minimum of 10 minutes at the beginning or end of class to use the restroom. Therefore PE students are encouraged to use the restroom during these times. As PE is a participation based class, teachers have the right to deduct points if students leave during class time to use the restroom as they will be missing participation. Keep in mind there are times when off-campus where students will NOT have immediate access to a restroom facility and therefore must learn to manage themselves.
C. Cell Phones/Air Pods- Per the schoolwide policy, cell phones may not be on your person during class. This means, by default, all cell phones, air pods, etc must be locked securely in locker room during class.
