You are cordially invited to participate in a public debate on “The Digital Economy e-Friction” on Wednesday April 27, 2016 at 5:00 pm at Campus de l’innovation et du sport Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth, bloc C room C244 (Mathaf facing the Security General Building).

“2016 marks the start of the implementation of the UN’s SDGs, and the Digital Economy comes super high on the world’s agenda. In 2013, ICANN commissioned the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to commission a study on the e–Friction factors that hinder the progress of the Digital Economy. The report came out with 4 factors that hinder the progress of the Digital Economy:

  • Infrastructure (50% of the problem);
  • Individual (16.6% of the problem);
  • Information (16.6% of the problem); and
  • Industry (16.6% of the problem).

Mr. Fahd Batayneh, Stakeholder Engagement Manager – ICANN Middle East will present the findings of the BCG report on e-Friction. The presentation will be followed by a panel debate moderated by Mr. Gaby Deek with a panel of distinguished speakers, including Dr. Charbel El Kareh, Mr. Nabil Bukhalid, Dr. Nabil Fahd and Mr. Mohamed Najem.

ISOC-LB General Assembly and Administrative Board Election

ISOC Lebanon will hold its General Assembly meeting on Thursday February 25, 2016 at 6:00 PM at Berytech BDD (1rst floor). The meeting will be dedicated to the election of a new Administrative Board.

The Internet Multistakeholder Governance Model
On the occasion of the Fourth Arab Internet Governance Forum in Beirut, the Internet Society Lebanon Chapter and Maharat Foundation, in cooperation with Hivos organized a round table meeting entitled "The Internet Multi-stakeholder Governance Model”. The event took place at the Monroe Hotel in Beirut on December 15th, 2015.

“The multistakeholder model of Internet governance is the best mechanism for maintaining an open, resilient, and secure Internet because, among other things, it is informed by a broad foundation of interested parties – including businesses, technical experts, civil society, and governments – arriving at consensus through a bottom-up process regarding policies affecting the underlying functioning of the Internet ecosystem.”

The debate was moderated by Mr. Gaby Deek with a panel of distinguished speakers, including Mrs. Rola Mikael, Mr. Nabil Bukhalid, Dr. Nabil Fahd, Dr. Charbel El Kareh, Dr. Nibal Idlibi, Deputy Ghassan Mukheiber, Deputy Yassin Jaber, Judge Wassim Hajjar, Dr. Walid Raed, and Mr. Hamzah Bin Mahraz.

Internet Freedom

ISOC Lebanon board met on September 10, 2015 and endorsed by majority vote the “Internet Freedom Report” compiled by Maharat and the regional office of UNESCO. ISOC Lebanon will promote the report as a “baseline Internet Status in Lebanon” document.

ISOC Lebanon agreed with Mrs. Roula Mikhael and Mrs. Layal Bahnam from Maharat foundation to further develop the collaboration between the two organizations and consolidate their effort and activities to improve the Internet in Lebanon. .... See More 

ISOC Lebanon General Assembly 2014 "Celebrating 500th Member"

General Assembly 2014
On Tuesday December 16, 2014 around 70 ISOC members gather at NOVA CLUB – SIN EL FIL to attend ISOC Lebanon General Assembly meeting “Celebrating ISOC Lebanon 500th Member”. Mr. Nabil Bukhalid, ISOC-LB President, presented to the general assembly ISOC-LB’s activities and progress during 2014. The general assembly discussed and approved the financial statement for 2014, budget for 2015 and plan 2015 activities in line with ISOC Strategic Plan for 2013-2015.

After the general assembly, Dr. Mark Ibrahim introduced CoMIQuaL project.

The presentations were preceded by the distribution of prizes to ISOC-LB 500th member (one year DSL Internet connection 6M-60GB with modem offered by IDM, face value of $700) and to the 1st and 2nd best member recruiters during 2014 (Tablets offered by Microsoft, face value $200 each).

The general assembly was concluded by a cocktail party and a lively classic rock concert by “The Habibees”.

MoET - June 3, 2014 - On June 3, 2014, His Excellency Minister Alain Hakim launched the 'Lebanese Internet Center' (LINC) in a press conference held at the Ministry of Economy and Trade (MoET).  Mr. Fadi Chehadeh President of ICANN, Dr. Nabil Fahd VP of CCIAB, Dr. Charbel El Kareh Head of the ICT committee at BBA among a large group of stakeholders attended the ceremony.

ESA - May 23, 2014 - The Faculté de sciences économiques at USJ and the Lebanese Chapter of the Internet Society (ISOC) and the organized on May 23, 2014 an open data workshop at École supérieure des Affaires (ESA) in Clemenceau, where Greek open data researcher Michalis Vafopoulos demonstrated how open data can be an economic engine and how, in his experience, the financial sector is the best place to start.

Internet Entrepreneurship and the Future of Lebanon

NDU - April 25, 2014 - A strong culture of entrepreneurship should replace, or at least compete, with the culture of employment especially among Lebanon’s fresh university graduates. ISOC Lebanon will briefly review the pillars of the knowledge economy exposing Lebanon’s competitiveness and stressing on the role of education and the creativity of Lebanon’s university graduates.
