Hello, and welcome, Harry Potter fans!  My name is Irvin, though I'm known around the Internet as "hpboy13."  I got into Harry Potter when I was nine years old, back in 2001, and I've been in the fandom since 2003.  I've been rather prolific in the fandom since then, writing fanfiction and filks and essays, and I am currently a columnist for Mugglenet, spearheading "The Three Broomsticks."  As a college student hailing from New York City, I have also joined the real-life fandom there in the form of The Group That Shall Not Be Named, and have become an avid cosplayer.  I play Beater for the NY Badassilisks, and I am the leader of the world's first wizard dance troupe, the Dancing Death Eaters.  I was the organizer of Avada KedavRock! 2012, a large wizard rock concert in NYC.

In short, I have a lot of Harry Potter stuff going on in my life, and I needed one place on the Internet where all of it could be centralized, and this site is that place.  You can check out my bio, or click on the links page to explore all my stuff.  Or, here are a few quick links.

  • 10/5/15: Massive update to cosplay site
There was a period, mostly May & June, where it seems like I spent more time in costume than out of it.  It's taken months to go through all the photos and update the website, but it's finally done (just in time for new costumes this Halloween!).

In June, I partook in a cosplay day devoted to Percy Jackson.  There is now a separate section for those costumes (here), and two new costumes: Rachel Elizabeth Dare and Jason Grace

At the end of April, I cosplayed the Weasley twins: Fred and George

At MISTI-Con 2015 in May, I debuted several new costumes: Ron WeasleyLuna Lovegood, and a refurbished Lockhart.  I also made my acting debut as Edward Cullen in Fan Fiction Theatre.

For the Mermaid Parade, I dressed as one of the Muses of Hercules.

For an advance screening of Pixar's new movie Inside Out, I dressed as Disgust.

When I went to see StarKid's The Trail to Oregon, I dressed as the Dad.

  • 2/6/15: Updated and Renovated Editorial Section
I've been very bad about updating my editorials section of my bibliography, even as plenty of new Harry Potter essays have been posted on MuggleNet in the past year and a half.  But I have now added links to all the editorials, as well as fixed all the links that were broken by MuggleNet's redesign.  Among the new stuff:

An entire section devoted to Rowling's Cormoran Strike series, with book reviews and character analysis, as well as comparisons to the HP books: Cormoran Strike

An entire section devoted to the symbolism of Sorcerer's Stone - the chess match, potions riddle, etc. - and how that foreshadows things in the rest of the series.  The essays are still being posted on MuggleNet, but I'm very proud of this series: Symbolism of Book 1

Headmasters in Canon, which sets the record straight after an awful lot of incorrect information was disseminated about Newt Scamander in light of the Fantastic Beasts movie announcement.  Using only the canonical text (after defining what that is), I figure out who the Headmasters of Hogwarts were throughout the 20th century, and why Scamander can't be one.
