TrailRunner - Mac OS X route planning and training software for GPS devices

iTrail is pleased to announce that it is working in partnership with the developer of TrailRunner to provide better integration of performance and location data with the Mac desktop. We believe TrailRunner is a wonderful application offering great possibilities to view and understand performance and location data, both graphically and on beautiful fully interactive maps, an example of which can be seen below.

TrailRunner is a route planning application for all kinds of long distance sports like running, biking, hiking, inline-skating, skiing and more. If you ever asked yourself how long your workout routes are and what route you should choose for this evening — then TrailRunner should be your training-partner. TrailRunner can calculate a route for your desired distance and export directions onto your iPod, giving you a detailed orientation while you are on your way.

Transferring data from iTrail to TrailRunner

Data transfer between iTrail and TrailRunner is fully supported. Please try it out. The current version of iTrail (1.8) supports transfer to TrailRunner, future versions will improve and develop the capability. A version of TrailRunner, 1.8 (273)  that supports transfer from iTrail is available on the TrailRunner web-site, instructions for its use with iTrail are available on the TrailRunner blog.

The process of transferring data from iTrail to TrailRunner is very like that used to transfer data to iTrail Desktop. In fact it uses exactly the same technology, TrailRunner can replace iTrail Desktop.

To Transfer data, the Mac you are using and the iPhone must be connected to the same domestic Wifi network. You may have to adjust your firewall setting to make this work. So :

  • Start TrailRunner, click on the iPhone link at the top.
  • Start iTrail, find your trail in "My Trail"
  • On the summary screen of your trail click "Export Data", the select TrailRunner. You should see the screen below.

  •  Hit "Connect to TrailRunner". If iTrail can connect the buttons at the bottom will go blue. To transfer data to TrailRunner hit the GPX button, a few moments later your route and performance stats will appear with in TrailRunner.
